Leader of the Opposition L K Advani has been the target of Islamist terror groups for well over a decade. And after his security was raised to unprecedented levels during his tenure as Deputy Prime Minister, there has been no downscaling. Like him, Narendra Modi and Ghulam Nabi Azad have now emerged as fresh targets and have been at the centre of all security reviews. Last week saw fresh threats against Advani after some time. As it turns out, it was not routine intel that yielded this new information. It was due to a top IB official, now retired, who still maintains his source in the underworld. He provided the input about Dawood Ibrahim being contacted by ISI to target Advani. While the intelligence about the suspected assassin did not deliver the expected results, the hunt continues. Meanwhile, Advani’s security is again under periodic review just like in the old times.
