
Islamabad, Feb 18: The combined opposition in the Pakistani Senate has asked Sharif Govt to resign owning moral responsibility in the wake of the country8217;s Supreme Court verdict declaring as illegal the establishment of military courts.
The deputy leader of the opposition Reza Rabbani, while speaking on a point of order, said the unanimous decision of 9-member SC bench has endorsed the opposition8217;s point of view that 8220;this government has been taking unconstitutional and undemocratic steps.8221;
The opposition maintained that the establishment of military trial courts was the sixth major initiative of the government which has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
The other five initiatives turned down by the Supreme Court included amendment of the terrorist act, chiselling down of the 14th amendment, restoration of the fundamental rights which were suspended by the imposition of emergency, restoration of foreign currency accounts and also the restoration of the powers of the Sindh assembly,the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
The Opposition claimed that all this proved that the government looks for unconstitutional and undemocratic methods to rule.
