The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh home secretary and state police chief on a petition filed by a police officer alleging that he was being victimised by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government for taking action against its Cabinet Minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya.
A bench comprising Justice B.N. Agrawal and Justice H.K. Sema also issued notice to the CBI on the petition filed by DSP R.S. Pandey and ordered continuance of the stay on the proceedings in 36 cases instituted against him after Raja Bhaiyya was made a Cabinet Minister.
Pandey, while being posted at Kunda, had conducted raids on the residence of Raja Bhaiyya in January last year during the chief ministership of Mayawati and allegedly recovered fire arms and unaccounted wealth.
He said: ‘‘It is surprising, how, with all the evidence piled up against the said Raja Bhaiyya, not only cases have been withdrawn and police officers like the petitioner, diligently pursuing their duty been subjected to harassment and punishment, but he has also been sworn in as a Cabinet Minister, almost as an reward for having committed the crimes.’’
Pandey complained that he was not in a position to move freely in the state in view of the threats to his life given by Raja Bhaiyya and his supporters.
