
ELF EXUBERANCE…Nine-year-old Elf-Vengsarkar B’ Academy batsman Bravish Shetty executs a smart cut on way to 31 against Brijesh Patel-Imtiaz Ahmed Academy on Saturday.
MUMBAI, May 3: The Brijesh Patel-Imtiaz Ahmed Academy (BPIAA) lads overcame their insipid batting display yesterday with a commanding performance against Elf-Vengsarkar Academy B’ today at the latter’s ground.
The Bangalore outfit thus raked up their first victory in the national-level under-14 cricket tournament for the Elf Cup. The foundations for the big 114-run win were raised by opener Pranay Sanklecha’s fine 85-ball 107 (11×4, 1×6) and his 131-run association for the third wicket with skipper Vikrant Shetty, who remained unbeaten on 65 (52b, 7×4).
Sanklecha was also involved in a 98-run stand with Vikar Ahmed (45: 39b, 7×4) for the first wicket as BPIAA posted a massive score of 247 for 5 in the stipulated 35 overs.
The bowlers then complimented their batsmen’s efforts as they shot out EVA B’ for 133. Medium-pacer Stewart Binny, son of former Test star Roger Binny reaped a rich haul claiming three wickets conceding just eight runs while Anish Jose took two for 22.
The nine-year-old Bravish Shetty was the only batsmen who stood up to the rival attack with a topscore of 31 (6×4).
PUNE XI LOSE: Sambaran Banerjee Academy, Calcutta (SBA) upstaged Pune XI in the second match of the day by four wickets. Chasing 189 for victory, the Calcutta outfit rode on Javed Ali’s 74 (69b, 12×4) and his 62-run partnership for the third wicket with Vimal Agrawal (26) to see the side through with more than an over to spare.
Earlier, the Pune skipper Rohan Dharwat was once again in his elements as he went to notch his second successive hundred in as many matches.
The tenth calss student of Seventh Day Adventish High School , Ichalkaranji followed up his 106 against EVA A’ yesterday with a 101 (98b, 7×4, 4×6) today. His knock was the only high point in the Pune innings where the next best was Shirish Kamthe’s 29 with the duo posting 120 runs for the third wicket.
Brief scores: BPIAA, Bangalore 247-5 in 35 overs (Pranay Sanklecha 107, Vikar Ahmed 45, Vikrant Shetty 65 n.o.) bt EVA B’ 133 in 32.4 overs (Bravish Shetty 31; Stewart Binny 3-8, Anish Jose 2-22) by 114 runs.
Pune XI 188-6 in 35 overs (Shirish Kamthe 29, Rohan Dharwat 101; Prabhat Tiwari 3-41) lost to SBCA, Calcutta 189-6 in 33.2 overs (Vimal Agrawal 26, Soumik Chanda 22, Javed Ali 74; Sagar Dhungule 2-17) by four wickets.
