Sania Mirza continued to roll as she stormed into the semi finals of the Moorilla International Open with a straight-set victory over home favourite Alicia Molik in Hobart today.
The 20-year old Indian thrashed Molik, her doubles partner, 6-4, 6-1 in the quarter finals of the $145,000 WTA Tour event, a lead up to the Australian Open starting next Monday.
Former world No. 8 Mollik, down to 165 in world rankings after 18 months plagued by illness and injury, said she took confidence from her performance, though her serve was poor.
“I’ve had three matches here in singles. I would have loved to have won today but it didn’t go my way,” Molik said.
“It just means I’ll get out there and work harder tomorrow. “There’s a couple of things I’d really like to work on over the next few days but I think often you learn more from your losses than your wins. Certainly I think I do.”
Sania, however, tasted defeat in the doubles as she and Molik went down fighting 6-7 (5), 6-7 (1) to second seeds Maria Elena Camerin of Italy and Gisela Dulko of Russia in the quarter finals.
