
PUNE, Nov 16: With just a minor patchwork remaining to be done by the Pune Municipal Corporation8217;s road department, today8217;s scheduled opening of the 78-year-old Sangam bridge has been postponed till November 18.
The bridge which connects Maldhakka and Kamgar Putala chowk had developed major cracks in mid-October following which it was closed for vehicular traffic for over a month. The manhole of the sewerage line on the bridge had been severely damaged. A portion of the surface admeasuring 5 X 5 feet caved in due to water pressure.
Officials however are unanimous on the proposal to ban heavy vehicles on the bridge. According to P T Pawar, development engineer roads, the department was informed today that repair work by the drainage department had been completed. 8220;We will take one more day for asphalting the stretch,8221; Pawar said adding that the bridge will be re-opened from November 18.
