A day after five suspected Indian Mujahideen IM members were arrested by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch, the police on Thursday picked up the brother of alleged co-founder Mohammed Sadiq Israr Shaikh. He was released after questioning. A doctor from Mumbranbsp;was also questioned and later released.
8220;Today, we called Sadiq8217;s brother Tariq for questioning. There were certain doubts which we wanted to get cleared, and once this was done he was allowed to leave. We had also called a doctor from Mumbra for questioning, as circuitry expert Arif Shaikh was staying at his dispensary,8221; said Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Rakesh Maria.
8220;The accused have provided us some information during their interrogation, and teams have been sent to different locations outside the city to verify them. I would not like to disclose these locations as they are operational details. We are sharing information with other states and central agencies,8221; said Maria.
The Crime Branch said it would ultimately hand over all the five accused to the state Anti-Terrorism Squad since they are alleged to be involved in the 7/11 serial blasts case. The group was planning to trigger blasts at 8220;crowded areas8221; in the city and had surveyed some areas, the police said, without naming specific targets.
The Crime Branch also said Roshan Khan alias Riyaz Bhatkal not Bhatkar as was reported today, the alleged co-founder of IM who is yet to be arrested, would be the key to cracking the mystery behind who sent the IM e-mails by hacking into unsecured Wi-Fi networks.
8220;Bhatkal was in charge of the communications aspect as well as arranging the material resources necessary for the group8217;s activities. He is the man who will know whether it is Abdus Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer or someone else who sent the terror e-mails,8221; said Maria.
