
AURANGABAD, JANUARY 31: The Marathwada statutory development board has asked the state government to sanction Rs 7,210 crore to ensure completion of developmental works in Marathwada region.
The demand was made by board chairman Madhukar Chavan during his meeting with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh here last night.
Chavan told reporters that as the Chief Minister hails from Marathwada, I expect that he will consider the demand on priority basis8221;.
The Chief Minister had assured that he would take up with the Central Government the issue of bringing the Hajira gas project to Marathwada, Chavan said.
Earlier, Deshmukh met veteran freedom fighter Govindbhai Shroff at the government Subhedari guest house and discussed the developmental backlog of the region.
AHMEDNAGAR: Activists of the Shiv Sena, BJP, Bajrang Dal, Maratha Mahasangh and Vishwa Hindu Parishad today disrupted the meeting of the Andhshraddha Nirmulan Samiti8217; ANS and allegedly abused its state secretary Baba Aragade at Newase Phata tehsil, 58 kms from here.
Aragade8217;s organisation was holding a satyashodhak mahilakirti parishad8217; to protest the ban on entry of women at the Shani Shinganapur8217; temple in the district.
The angry activists, who first disrupted the proceedings of the parishad and then blackened Aragade8217;s face, warned the ANS against playing with the sentiments of Hindus, Dilip Chavan, convenor of the parishad, said.
Some activists, who were arrested, were later released by the police.
