MUMBAI, APRIL 6: “Sentiment, history and support” will mark the occasion when the Indian team which won the World Cup in 1983 clashes with the present Indian team for the Hero Honda Cup on April 18. The day-night match, an extension of the Good Luck India campaign of Hero Honda, will be played at Wankhede Stadium.
The proceeds from the match will go to the families of two former Test cricketers. Ramnath Parkar, who is in coma after suffering a road mishap three years back, and the wife of the late Raman Lamba who died on the cricket field, will get Rs 20 lakh each.
The president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Raj Singh Dungarpur, while speaking on the occasion of this announcement, said the time has come to stop criticising the Indian team and start supporting it. “I would also like to congratulate chairman of the selection committee Ajit Wadekar for selecting the best possible 15 players,” said the president. Dungarpur also lauded Kapil Dev for coming up with such an idea. “Onlya great all-rounder like him can think of about the all-round aspect,” he said. “A lot of people talk about doing things, but Kapil actually translates ideas into happenings.”
