
NEW DELHI, January 29: The preventive branch of the Customs in a major haul today seized smuggled diesel engines, Chinese silk, polyester fabric valued at Rs 1.84 crore from two places.
In the first case the officers of the Customs preventive unit, intercepted a Maruti van in Greater Kailash carrying yarns of Chinese silk. The person driving the van, Sanjay Maheswari was apprehended and the search of the premises of his company, Resham India Ltd, led to the seizure of another 3,000 metres of Chinese silk.
Surveillance at the premises led to the interception of a tempo carrying a consignment of 10,000 metres of the silk. The officers also raided a godown in Kishan Ganj and recovered 66,061 metres of polyester fabric.
During interrogation the accused revealed that the fabric was being smuggled through various land posts along the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar.
In the second case, the customs officers seized 85 diesel engines of various international makes from the premises of a factory in the Mayapuriarea.
