Bangalore, Feb 3: Thirteen-year-old Ronak Pandit of Maharashtra made his mark on the national shooting scene today when he worked his way into the record books in the 25 m Rapid Fire open for juniors at the 42nd Nationals held under international rules at the JNR range, SAI Southern Centre.Pemba Tamang of the Army also bettered the national record and ensured a silver for himself.

An eighth standard schoolboy, Ronak, who came into his own with a gold medal in the 25 metre standard pistol event for junior men on Saturday ensured he would get his second individual gold in his first nationals.

Son of ace international Ashok Pandit, Ronak said he did not consciously chase scores but felt that the national record that stood in Subhash Rana8217;s name 543: Delhi,1998 was within his reach.

Eighteen-year-old Pemba had a total of 538 which came with round scores of 97,87,87 and 87,94,86. Amol Chauhan of Maharashtra was in third place with a total of 514.

Golden double for Bindra: Abhinav Bhindra and JaspreetDhaliwal made it a 1-2 for Punjab in the civilian men8217;s open Air Rifle individual category. Abhinav scored 571 to take the gold while Jaspreet was seven points behind for the silver. There was a tie for the third place between Maharashtra teammates Nilesh Rane and Praveen Durve, who both totalled 557. In the last card Rane scored a 94 to Durve8217;s 91 and hence won the bronze.

Abhinav went to win his second gold on the day in the junior open individual section with a 14-point lead at 571. Sudhir Pal Army took the silver with 554 and Jesal Ganjawala Maharashtra settled for the bronze with 553 points.Team gold for Maharashtra: Maharashtra picked up all the four team gold up for grabs on the day in air rifle men8217;s open, civilian, junior open and junior civilian sections.
