
PUNE, April 19: A spate of robberies was witnessed in the city and its rural outskirts as between Sunday morning and Monday evening.
Two of these heists were pulled off in broad daylight. Two persons were injured in these three robberies. Cash totalling more than Rs 1.71 lakh was stolen.
Though combing operations were being carried out by the police throughout the district, neither the dacoits who struck at Talegaon Dabhade on Saturday nor the robbers who stormed the vicinities of Chandani Chowk, Chinchwad Railway Station and Urawade village near Paud could be nabbed till late evening.
Four revolver-wielding robbers riding a Hero Honda struck at the Rudra Petrol Pump located near the police chowkey at Chandani Chowk on busy Katraj-Dehu Road bypass this afternoon.
The foursome, who went to the petrol pump for refuelling around 2 pm, took the two pump attendants and a cashier at gun point and threatened to kill them if they resisted.
They sped away towards Wakad after snatching all the Rs 4000 in cash collected by the pump staffers.
A nakabandi was carried out to track down the robbers after one of the petrol pump attendants claimed that he had partially noted down the getaway vehicle8217;s registration number. However, the culprits could not be traced. In a separate incident at Urawade village, three youths on a motorbike attacked a contractor of Temghar Dam and robbed him of Rs 1,50,000 in cash and a cellular phone.
Rampyare Yadav 48 of Udyognagar in Chinchwad was seriously injured when attacked by two robbers on a crowded road near Chinchwad Railway Station on Sunday afternoon. The robbers attacked Rampyare with a knife and stole his gold ring, chain and Rs 100 in cash.
