The Indian Railways plans to have their proposed High Speed Passenger Corridors on elevated tracks.

8220;Elevated corridors will be costly, but that way we don8217;t have to engage in massive land acquisition exercises. For such corridors, all we will need is the right to construct pillars and bridges on the lines of Delhi Metro,8221; Railway Board Financial Commissioner R Sivadasan said. 8220;This method would ensure we don8217;t end up dividing the population into two halves. State Governments, too, would only have to provide the minimum land needed to erect the pillars,8221; he said.

This project was announced by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Rail Budget. And, even as Rail Bhavan plans to award a pre-feasibility of four routes to RITES, the Delhi-Chandigarh route emerges as a front-runner to be chosen as a pilot project.
