AHMEDABAD, Aug 19: In what is being billed as the biggest-ever function of the Rashtriya Janata Party in Gujarat after the party decided to join the National Democratic Front, preparations are in full swing for the RJP State convention to be organised at the Ramlila Maidan on Thursday.
Among the top NDF leaders, who are expected to address the Thursday’s RJP convention, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Buta Singh have already arrived, while Laloo Prasad Yadav, Ajit Singh, Prakash Ambedkar and film-star Raj Babbar would arrive by Thursday’s morning flight. RJP’s lone MP from Bihar, Anand Mohan, his wife and member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly Lovely Mohan are also expected to reach Ahmedabad on Thursday morning. The RJP office, however, could not clarify about Chandra Shekhar’s programme, who is also said to be among the invitees.
According to the party programme, a huge rally of around five lakh RJP supporters led by RJP supremo Shankersinh Vaghela and State party president Madhusudan Mistry will be taken out from the city’s Lal Darwaja area around 12 p.m. Before the rally will be taken out, the two leaders will be garland the statue of famous social leader Indulal Yagnik. On the way, both Vaghela and Mistry will stop at the Gandhi Ashram.
It will take the rally around two hours before it will reach the Ramlila Maidan, the venue of the proposed convention. True to Vaghela style, the entire route between Lal Darwaja and Ramlila Maidan has been decked up with festoons and party banners. The entire rally will be accompanied by bhajan mandalis. A huge cut-out of Vaghela has already been put up at the convention venue, the RJP office said adding that the NDF leaders would not participate in the rally.
Mulayam Singh Yadav will inaugurate the convention by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
