Union minister of State and RJD leader Prem Gupta today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, fuelling speculation that the two parties may work out some understanding to reduce areas of conflict in the remaining two phases of polling in Bihar.

Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh, party pointsman for seat-sharing talks with RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav and JMM president Shibu Soren, also met Sonia.

After the meeting, sources in the Congress continued to maintain that there will be no joint public meeting by Sonia and Laloo in Bihar. The Congress chief is scheduled to campaign in the state on February 11 and 12. However, she is set to share the stage with JMM leader Shibu Soren in Jharkhand.

The exit polls have predicted a tough fight for Laloo. Though Sonia’s public meetings have evoked a good response, its translation into votes remains debatable.
