
PUNE, May 25: The revised syllabus for the degree course in commerce B.Com. will be implemented from June 8217;99, the University of Pune announced today.
For the first year students, Functional English8217;, with an oral examination for 20 marks, will be a compulsory subject, with emphasis on improving writing and communication skills. Consumer protection and business ethics8217; and Foundation course in commerce8217;, are the new optional subjects included for the first year. Computer concepts and programming8217; is a compulsory first-year subject, which will introduce computers to students through demonstrations and theory, not through practicals. It is offered as a choice with Commercial mathematics and statistics8217;.
Office automation8217; or Business communication8217; is a choice for the second year compulsory subject. Colleges will have autonomy in deciding the syllabus, and setting the question papers for Office automation8217;.
International trade8217; T.Y.B.Com compulsory Corporate law8217;, Agriculture and industrial economics8217; have been introduced for both secondand third year as special subjects.Books for the new subjects will be available by July 15 , and teachers will undergo an orientation programme regarding the new syllabus, before the academic year begins, said Prof. Bharadi, Dean, commerce department, University of Pune.
