CHANDIGARH, May 3: UT Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate H.S. Madaan today convicted a city resident for having uttered obscene words to a woman and having tried to outrage her modesty.

The accused, Durga Parshad, on December 5, 1998, in the Samadhi Yog Mandir area, Mani Majra, had allegedly uttered obscene words to her. He had said : tum mujhe bahut achhi lagti ho, ji karta hai ki tumhara gala chum loon. It was further alleged that the accused also tried to criminally intimidate one Badri Parshad and threatened to cause injury to him. The accused was booked here under Sections 506 and 509 IPC and has been in judicial custody since that day. The total time spent in custody comes to about five months.

The ACJM convicted the accused and directed that his sentence be treated from the day he was taken into judicial custody.
