City-based director Nikhil Mahajan8217;s short film Antahasthiti revolves around the mystery of immaculate dreams
Dreams pass into the reality of actions and from the action stems another dream. Although we can resonate it in either ways, the connection between reel and real has always been strong. Unleashing the common ties between a world of dreams and intelligent cinema, and raveling the emotions of a young boy, city-based director-writer Nikhil Mahajan, in his first short film Antahasthiti 8211;Inner Spirit, frames a tale of innocent dreams.
8220;Antahasthiti is a dark psychological thriller about Damodar, a young boy who lives in a place in Konkan and is out to solve the mystery of his dreams and in the process he unwinds a deep dark secret of life. The story revolves around an eight-year-old Damodar, who is breaking into adolescence as he is juggling amidst a bunch of emotions and deals with depression, desires and dreams. The entire film has been shot in Malvan in Maharashtra,8221; adds Mahajan, a student of Sydney Film Institute.
This 35-minute film is Mahajan8217;s first tryst with the big screen. Elaborating on the concept he adds, 8220;Antahasthiti is a very intelligent film, it is layered with lot of metaphors and sentiments. It can be a little difficult to decipher and many times people have been questioning me on the concept.8221;
Mahajan plans to screen the film at various international festivals. 8220;I have always wanted to make a film on a boy in this kind of a dilemma. I am sure it will be perceived by people of various cultures, the issue has a universal appeal. Aniruddha Deodhar has played the role of Damodar, the kid in the film and is extremely talented. Anirudha Harip and Rutuja Patil, the lead actors, have done a fantastic job,8221; he adds.
Mahajan is at present working on his first feature film Hawa Mahal. Talking about the film he says, 8220;It is a fantasy fairy tale set against a rural background and on a realistic backdrop. It revolves around three characters that meet accidentally. It is a commercial movie and in Hinglish. Although I have grown seeing Shahrukh Khan and always had a like for Indian films, Sydney has given me the platform and exposure I needed. There I got to learn about the various different cinemas of the world and interact with different people. I believe I am blessed with a vivid imagination and my films are going to be invariably fictions.8221;
Antahasthiti will be premiered at the National Film Archive of India NFAI today at 3.00 pm
