MUMBAI: The rupee weakened further against the US currency on sustained light dollar demand from state-owned banks in an otherwise thin and lethargic trade at the interbank foreign exchange (forex) market here today. Opening around Rs 43.5150/5250 per dollar, the rupee dipped to an intra-day low of Rs 43.5350/5450 on steady dollar demand from state-run banks and eventually closed at Rs 43.5300/5350, slightly lower from overnight closing levels of Rs 43.5150/5250. The Indian unit had depreciated by a paisa yesterday.
