Rats caused Salt Lake powercut

The half-an-hour powercut during the India-Japan football match at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Wednesday 8212; believe it or not 8212; was because of a pack of rats. West Bengal Power Minister Mrinal Banerjee told reporters this evening that 8216;8216;rats entered the power sub-station near the Stadium and that led to an accidental black-out8217;8217;.

Banerjee8217;s statement came after hectic activity through the day, starting with Chief Minister Buddhaheb Bhattacharjee asking the power ministry to submit a report on the fiasco. Sports minister Subhas Chakraborty also held a series of meetings, including with the State Elecriticty Board chairman. There was also a protest march taken out by supporters of the Congress party, demanding Banerjee8217;s resignation.
