Poetic justice has a way of catching up with the Indian Hockey Federation IHF. Or call it the coming-to-your-senses action. The hubris of the IHF head honchos in axing Deepak Thakur and Viren Rasquinha has melted. The two are back in the Indian squad after the team8217;s bad show vs Pakistan.
Dropped after the eight-nation Rabo Bank meet in Amstelveen, in August last, 25-year-old Indian Oil striker Thakur made a comeback for the Commonwealth Games.
Midfielder Viren Rasquinha too had run out of the selectors8217; favour. 8220;It8217;s really surprising, as I had been performing well of late in domestic competitions but yet found myself out of the side. Now I hope to repeat my performance at the highest level,8221; Thakur said.
Ignace Tirkey will continue to lead as Dilip Tirkey has failed to recover.
The Squad: Bharat Kumar Chetri, Baljit Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh, Harpal Singh, Sandeep Singh, Vikram Pillay, Ignace Tirkey, Prabodh Tirkey, Viren Rasquinha, Rajpal Singh, Didar Singh, Sardara Singh, Tushar Khandekar, Tejbir Singh, Arjun Halappa and Deepak Thakur. Chief coach: Rajinder Singh.
