Court has asked GRP not to arrest the MNS leader till his anticipatory bail application comes up for hearing
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray got a Diwali breather on Friday when a Sessions Court in Kalyan extended the interim relief granted to him till November 11. The Government Railway Police(GRP) on Wednesday had moved an application seeking his custody.
Sessions Judge K K Tantrapale has now asked the GRP not to arrest Raj till November 11, when his anticipatory bail application comes up for hearing.
On Wednesday, Thackeray’s lawyer had moved an anticipatory bail application foreseeing arrest by the GRF before moving for interim relief. On Friday, however, the prosecution sought time to file a reply regarding the anticipatory bail plea of Thackeray.
The judge has also directed the MNS leader to abide by the conditions laid down on Wednesday while granting him interim relief and to present himself before the Kalyan railway police as and when required.
Special public prosecutor Rohini Salian also argued that Thackeray’s presence was required when the court was hearing his bail application. The court asked if the state was prepared to tackle any situation or further violence. “Is your machinery prepared?” asked the judge. The court will on November 11 decide if Thackeray’s presence is required during the hearing.
