CHANDIGARH, Feb 8: Inclement weather did not dampen the spirit of fourth seeded Radhika Mandke, who scored a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory over compatriot Raje Kalpita in the girls first-round match the Centurion ITF Junior Circuit Tennis Tournament which got underway at Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) courts in Sector 10 here today. However, the matches in the boys group could not be held On plexi cushion courts due to intermittent rain.
Seventh seed Nida Waseem of Pakistan blanked Sanya Judge of India 6-0, 6-0 to move into the next round. Nida’s flawless game may send an early warning signals to the other seeded players in the meet.
Dzyuba Olga of Kazakistan was the second foreigners to taste victory in the meet. She beat Poornima Narayanan of India 6-3, 6-1 in a one-sided affair.Out of seven encounters held, the match between Kanury Sandhya and Wagia Nona, both of India had some exciting.
Both the players were engaged in long rallies. Kanuary down by a set 4-6, pulled sleeves up to win the second set 7-5.
However, in the decider eighth seeded Wagia was more error prone than her rival and she crashed out of the tournament.
On the other hand Kanuary was more consistent in her base line shots to win the set 6-3 and wrap up the contest.
In the unfinished match fifth seed Malinowska of Poland was leading Ankita Bhambri 4-1 and Liza Perreira has taken a 1-0 lead over Isha Chopra before the rain stopped the play.
Meanwhile, weather would also play a significant role tomorrow. A drizzle would mean no matches again in the boys sections. Since the plexi cushion courts takes long time to get dry. However, matches in the girls section is possible for clay courts, which get dry much faster than the synthetic courts.
