CULCUTTA, MARCH 10: Maharashtra teenager Radhika Tulpule won the ladies doubles title pairing with Janaki Krishnamoorty and kept herself on course for a double crown by breezing into the singles final in the Senior National Grasscourt Tennis Championships here on Thursday.
The third ranked Tulpule-Krishnamoorthy combine carved out an easy straight set victory over top seeded Sai Jayalakshmy and Rushmi Chakravarthi 6-3, 6-1 in only 55 minutes in the final at the CCFC lawns to bag a prize money of Rs 12,600 and gain 25 points.
Earlier, the promising Tulpule, ranked sixth in the singles, followed up her yesterday’s upset win over second seed Chakravarthi by showing the door to third seeded Archana Venkataraman 6-0, 6-3 in a one-sided semi-final to set up a title clash with top seeded Sai Jayalakshmy, who stormed past Arthi Venkataraman 6-1, 6-1.
In men’s singles, local boy Syed Fazaluddin justified his top billing to move into the summit round getting the better of fifth seeded Vishal Uppal of Delhi after overcoming an opening set reverse 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The lanky Davis Cupper will be involved in a title clash with sixth seeded Delhi’s Vijay Kannan, who needed only 37 minutes to prevail over an injured eighth seed Sourav Panja of the host state 6-3, 6-1.
