NEW DELHI: Australia8217;s visiting deputy prime minister Tim Fischer was not granted an audience with Prime Minister AB Vajpayee today, signalling India8217;s continued anger with Canberra8217;s publicly rude comments over New Delhi8217;s nuclear tests. Instead, Fischer met a few other ministers during his one-day visit today.
Employment Bill
NEW DELHI:A private member8217;s Constitution amendment bill to make the right to work a fundamental right was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. The bill provides that all citizens shall have the right to work to ensure them adequate means of livelihood.
Anjana case
CUTTACK:The Orissa High Court on Friday directed the CBI to investigate into the January 9 Anjana Mishra gangrape incident. The High Court also asked the director general of police to hand over all necessary documents to the CBI.
Bhagwat pension
NEW DELHI:THE government is expected to restore the pension of Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat who was dismissed asChief of Naval Staff on December 31. Under normal circumstances, any offer who is peremptorily removed from office forfeits his pensionary benefits which include medicare and canteen facilities. But it is understood that Defence Minister George Fernandes held a meeting of senior officials of his ministry and recommended to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to take a lenient view and allow Admiral Bhagwat to draw his pension.
