Ranabir Sena men held

Gaya TEN Ranabir Sena activists have been arrested from different parts of extremist-infested Jehanabad and Bhojpur districts in connection with Monday’s Shankerbigha carnage, according to DIG (Magadh range) S K Bhardwaj. Three activists of the Sena, a private army of landlords responsible for the killings, were arrested from Akopur last night, while the others were taken into custody from different parts of Jehanabad today, after the slaying of 22 people at Shankerbigha. The three Sena activists, including Nepal Singh and Anil Sharma, were arrested by a police team led by the newly appointed Inspector General of police (Patna range) Neelmani, who conducted raids at several places in Bhojpur districts Akopur, Bhardwaj said.

Nuns killed

ROME: Two nuns belonging to mother Teresa’s order, who were abducted earlier this month in the Sierra Leone capital Freetown, have died in captivity, the Rome-based missionary news agency Misna reported today. A monk and five nunsbelonging to the Missionaries of Charity were kidnapped on January 14 in the eastern Kissy district of Freetown. Sister Carmeline of Kenya and sister Sweva of Bangladesh are believed to have died in an air raid. Train derailsGONDA: THIRTY people were injured, three of them seriously, when nine bogies of the Agra-Chappra Express derailed, about 19 km from here, early today, official sources said. The train was on its way to Lucknow from here and the derailment occurred at around 4.40 hrs this morning as it crossed the Chitwapur crossing near Mejapur station.

Foreign postage rates hiked

NEW DELHI: The Government has decided to increase the tariffs for foreign letters, aerograms, postcards and other items. Aerograms to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan will now cost Rs 7 instead of Rs 5 earlier. For countries in the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas they will now cost Rs 8.50 instead of Rs 6.50 earlier. The rates will come into effect from February 1. According to the revised foreign surfacepostage rates the tariff for letters of a weight not exceeding 20 gram would be Rs 7 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 9 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union member countries except Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
