Cong expels Buta for 6 yrs
JAIPUR: Senior Congress leader Buta Singh, who has filed nomination against the party8217;s official candidate in the coming Lok Sabha election, was today expelled from the party for six years. Action against Singh was taken as he had failed to withdraw from the fray against party8217;s official nominee Parasram Meghawal from Jalore reserve constituency in Rajasthan despite persuasions by the party.
Cong cakewalk
KOHIMA: Congress today returned to power in Nagaland with two-thirds majority when 43 of its candidates were declared elected unopposed for the 60-member Assembly. The cakewalk for the Congress was made possible due to boycott of the February 22 Assembly electionAtilde;iquest;by non-Congress parties and other outfits including Naga Ho-Ho, the apex body of tribals.
Ban on firearms
MUMBAI: Mumbai Police Commissioner R H Mendonca on Saturday banned licence-holders of firearms in the Greater Mumbai region from carrying these arms in public places for a period of twomonths in connection with elections.
3 hurt in city fire
MUMBAI: Three persons of a family, including a child, received burn injuries when a woman8217;s sari caught fire at Navy Nagar on Saturday evening. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
