India to follow patent norms
NEW DELHI:
After of dithering, India today decided to comply with the World Trade Organisation WTO ruling on patent protection for pharmaceutical and agrochemical products from the European community. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet here. An official spokesman told media persons after the meeting that the Cabinet authorised India8217;s permanent representative to WTO to convey this decision to the dispute settlement body of the WTO during its meeting in Geneva on September 22.

Indo-US CTBT meet
NEW DELHI:
Prime Minister8217;s special envoy Jaswant Singh will shortly leave for Washington to hold the fifth round of Indo-US talks on non-proliferation with US deputy secretary of state Strobe Talbott. Singh said 8220;I will sit down with Talbott and narrow the gap of perceptions between the US, and the great civilisation that is India8221;. Reports from Washington have suggested that the meeting would take place on September 24.

Thiswill be the fifth meeting between the two.

Uniform age bar
NEW DELHI:
The Union Cabinet decided on Thursday that the age for attaining majority will uniformly be 18 years in all cases. The decision will remove the discrepancy between the age of majority fixed for general purpose and for certain cases like adoption and property transfer, currently 21 years.

Taliban massacre
DUBAI:
Some 350 patients, mainly women and children, hospitalised in a Bamiyan hospital were reportedly massacred by the Afghan Taliban militia, the official Iranian news agency IRNA said on Thursday in a report from Almaty.
