CHANDIGARH, Oct 20: The Punjab State Tubewell Corporation Employees’ Joint Action Committee has demanded urgent intervention by the government for payment of salary of employees who have not been paid since August.

In a statement, convenor Manjeet Singh Gill and convenor Om Parkash appealed to the government to release Rs 3 crore as salary for the PSTC employees and make arrangements for Rs 4 crore as arrears.

They also appealed that while initiating any action about the future of PSTC, the Joint Action Committee should be taken into confidence. Employees stated that for the year 1998-99 a deficit of Rs 41.5 crore has been shown which is not the result of PSTC activities, but due to less release of depreciation charges. They added the corporation had contributed a great deal towards the green revolution.
