
Strike called off
The Maharashtra Vikrikar Karmachari Sanghatana has called off its 17-day strike following assurance by Chief Minister Manohar Joshi that their pay scale would be increased before March next year.
All the employees of Sales Tax department would resume their duties from Monday. The employees were on strike from December 8.
Seshan in city
Former Chief Election Commissioner T N Seshan will attend the 15th annual convention of Rotary International, district 3130 as an invited speaker. The convention will be held at Siddhi Gardens near Mhatre bridge in the city from January 8 to 10. About 1,200 Rotarians from 94 Rotary clubs are expected to attend the convention.
Get-together
Sindhu Seva Dal, Pune, a Sindhi social organisation is organising a get-together of senior Sindhi citizens of Pune and Pimpri on Sunday December 27. The event will be held at Lal Mandli Harmony Building, Padumjee Park, Bhavani Peth at 11.30 am.
Riddhi wins
Riddhi Kinkar 12, of Kataria High School won the first prize in the painting competition on the topic International Peace8217; organised by Lions district 323 D of the International Association of Lions Clubs. Kaushik Subramanium of Shamrao Kalmadi High School and Tanwi Tapadia of Saint Helinas High School won second and third prizes respectively. Around 12,000 students from Pune, Nashik, Malegaon, Sangamner, Baramati, Panvel and Andheri participated in the competition.
Management cell
The Institution of Engineers India is planning to establish a more specialised manufacturing-management cell with an aim to guide and assist industry in manufacturing-oriented technology by publication and arranging seminars of practical nature.
According to a press note issued by the Institution of Engineers, the cell will also coordinate with universities and engineering institutions on a national level in research and development work of manufacturing-management technology.
Eye camp
An eye-check up camp was organised for Yerawada prison inmates by the Rotary Club of Pune Sports City jointly with Pune Blindmen8217;s Association and the prison administration. Three hundred prisoners participated in the camp.
