Army probes MES worker8217;s thrashing
The Pune Sub Area headquarters has ordered an enquiry into an incident where a senior army officer of the Station headquarters allegedly brutally beat an employee of the Military Engineering Services MES at the Sub Area mess on Thursday.
The action followed the flash strike resorted to by over 300 MES workers and technicians who staged a demonstration outside the office of the Commander Works Engineers, demanding an enquiry against the officer on Wednesday. The worker reportedly became temporarily deaf.
According to available reports, 34-year-old K B Bhagale who is a fitter had been to the residence of the senior officer to repair a water pipeline where he is believed to have asked the officer8217;s wife to sign a paper which could be presented to his boss. When she refused, it is alleged that the worker made some unsavoury remarks to her and her daughter. The upset lady immediately got in touch with her husband who allegedly beat up the worker while on duty at the Sub Area Mess. A police complaint has also been lodged in this connection.
The Defence spokesman stated that the workers had resumed work. The matter is purely internal to the Army and is being sorted out at the appropriate levels, he said.
