No ZP cells for admissions
For the second consecutive year the Zilla Parishad will not set up assistance cells for admissions to secondary medium schools with the State Government ruling that schools can conduct their own admission process for the academic year 1998-99.

With school principals being directed to follow the same admission pattern like last year, the Government Resolution dated January 5, 1998, has reserved five per cent seats in schools for children of State/Central government employees on transfer, disabled persons and present and ex-servicemen.

While schools are currently processing admissions, the education officer secondary, Zilla Parishad B P Mali has called upon schools to submit the number of seats which remain vacant between May 10 and 15. There are a total of 106 Marathi medium schools, 68 English medium, 10 Urdu medium, five Hindi medium, two Gujarathi medium and one Sindhi medium school in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas.

STWA strike deferred
The Scientific and Technical Workers Association STWA, Pune branch has postponed its indefinite agitation owing to negotiations currently being held in New Delhi on the issue of implementation of revised pay scales.

An association spokesman said that the results of the talks would be known within the next two days after which a final decision would be taken. The association had threatened to resort to an indefinite agitation from May 5 unless the revised payscales announced as per the Vth Pay Commission were implemented.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation PCMC has released its home page on the internet, facilitating access to all information regarding civic taxes, octroi rates and the development plan.

Speaking to newspersons, Municipal Commissioner Pravinsinh Pardeshi said that the information available through Internet will benefit industrial units if they wish to know the octroi rates and the citizens can have access to information about property, water taxes and also the citizens charter.

As the development plan of the township is also available on the home page, the citizens can now recognise the industrial belts, the green zone, and the residential zones when they wish to go in for any land deals, he said.

Youth killed
Minaz Shahabuddin Shaikh, a 25-year-old resident of Sant Tukaram Nagar area in Pimpri, was on Monday evening killed in a mishap on the Mumbai-Pune highway.

Minaz was riding near the Kalasagar Hotel at Pimpri when a vehicle dashed against his scooter and sped away, police said.
