Vyas case verdict to begin on Saturday
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court would on Saturday start delivering its verdict on two public interest petitions that alleged undue favours by the former chief minister Manohar Joshi in allowing his son-in-law Girish Vyas to illegally develop a multi-crore complex in Pune.

Arguments by all the parties concluded today following which the bench headed by Justice B N Srikrishna announced in the jam-packed courtroom that the pronouncement of the judgement would begin on Saturday.

The petitions, filed by journalist Vijay Kumbhar and Corporator Nitin Jagtap, alleged that Vyas had developed the complex on a plot reserved for a school in violation of rules. Kumbhar8217;s counsel argued that such illegal action amounted to criminal breach of trust and hence officers, including the former chief minister, should be prosecuted.

While Kumbhar harped on the demolition of the illegal structure that had come up allegedly in violation of rules, Jagtap did not favour demolition and pleaded that the plot and building should come back to Pune Municipal Corporation free of cost.

Thirty six tenants who have been accommodated by Girish Vyas in a separate building nearby, however, pleaded that they should be spared and the structure should not be demolished.
