Vadodara-based Providence FC8217;s inaugural campaign in Australia went off well.

Quite like their struggle for existence, the boys struggled onfield as well.

Their performance in their opening McDonald8217;s Kanga Cup match against Canberra8217;s Woden Valley Redbacks in the boys under-15 category today was

spirited.

The Gujarat club went down 3-4 in the closely-contested match.

The Asian Fellowship team didn8217;t get their maiden campaign off to a dream start they were hoping for as they conceded a free-kick just outside the box which led to the first goal within minutes of the start of

the match.

Woden Valley consolidated their lead minutes later, but the Indian boys fought back, and scored twice to draw level.

But the Canberra club scored again to go into the half-time leading by a goal 3-2.

The Vadodara boys overcame the deficit minutes into the second half to take the scoreline to 3-3.

Woden Valley went into lead once again after an indirect free-kick from only six meters from the goalline, was converted.

Providence got opportunities to equalise, but their efforts were not enough at

the end.

Earlier, a guard of honour by Terrigal United was given for the Gujarat club as the visitors ran out onto the pitch for the first time in the tournament.
