Protests rock Baramulla, Sopore

Massive protests rocked Baramulla and Sopore townships on Monday as the police and the CRPF used batons and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the protestors. Four people sustained injuries in the clashes. Baramulla and Sopore will go to polls in the fourth phase of elections on December 7.

Baramulla town has been witnessing clashes between youths and police over the past three days. The situation in the town turned volatile when security guards of Baramulla Congress candidate Mushtaq Ahmad shot a student near Khanpora on the Barmulla-Uri highway. Later, a mourner was also killed when security forces opened fire on the protestors in downtown Baramulla on Saturday.
