Finn stars in England victory
Fast bowler Steven Finn took five wickets on home debut as England beat Bangladesh by a convincing eight-wicket margin in the first Test at Lords on Monday to go 1-0 up in the two-match series. Bangladesh,following-on,were bowled out for 382 shortly before lunch on the final day with Finn taking five wickets for 87 runs in 24 overs. Finn finished with match figures of nine for 187. England,set 160 to win in two sessions,finished on 163 for two.

India set ODI record
India surpassed Australia in playing the most number of ODIs when they defeated Sri Lanka in their 742nd match. Australia have played 741 ODIs so far to hold the second position,while Pakistan are in third place with 715 ODIs. Fourth in the list are the West Indies (636),followed by Sri Lanka (599) and New Zealand (584). India played their first ODI on July 13,1974 — against England in Leeds. India had lost the match by four wickets.
Amla helps SA to fourth win
Hashim Amla struck his third ODI hundred to help South Africa shake off dead-rubber syndrome,and win the fourth ODI against West Indies by seven wickets. Amla collected nine fours and two sixes in another sublime innings of 129 from 115 balls,as the South Africans,chasing 304 for victory,reached their target from the last ball in a thrilling finish at Windsor Park.
Pawar to chair meeting
ICC president-elect Sharad Pawar will chair the meeting of the Central Organising Committee of the 2011 World Cup to be held at the BCCI headquarters. Interestingly,the ICC has put up on its website terms and conditions for all prospective ticket buyers on its official website. Among the conditions is a waiver that the purchaser of the ticket is moving in and around the match venues at his or her own risk. The clause indemnifies the ICC and others from any damage or harm sustained by the ticket holder to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Sporting Clube win u-19 league
Sporting Clube de Goa emerged champions beating East Bengal 4-2 in tiebreaker in final of the tournament for under-19 I-League teams. The match was settled in penalty shootout after ending goalless in regulation and extra-time. In the tie-breaker,all Sporting players Pedro Gonsalves,Reliston Fernandes,Pritam Ningthoujam and Joston Pareira were on target while for East Bengal,Bhim Oraon and Arijit Singh fired in.
Vaughan adds to fixing talk
New revelations on match-fixing continue to rock English cricket with former captain Michael Vaughan claiming that he knows a player who was approached by bookmakers. Vaughan,however,refused to divulge the players identity and said matches cannot be fixed completely. I know of one (player who has been approached). I think within all this it’s very important that these guys stay anonymous you hear of gangs and things that could happen, Vaughan was quoted as saying by The Independent. Vaughan’s comments come in the wake of ongoing probe into alleged spot-fixing in county matches.
Jeev slips to 99th
Jeev Milkha Singh was on the verge of slipping out of top 100 after going down 10 places to 99th in the latest list. Among other Indians,rising star Gaganjeet Bhullar is placed second at 150th spot followed by Shiv Kapur (221st) and Jyoti Randhawa (279th).

Indian challenge ended in the NSC Series-2 Squash Championships after all four girls,Anaka Alankamony,Aparajitha Balamurukan,Surbhi Misra and Anwesha Reddy suffered straight sets defeats in the womens category to became first round casualties in the $4,000 event played in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.
