Woods to play at Quail Hollow
Tiger Woods,who finished fourth at the Masters in his first tournament in five months,will tee it up again in a fortnight at the Quail Hollow Championship. Woods committed on Thursday to the tournament,which runs from April 29 to May 2. He has played Quail Hollow formerly known as the Wachovia Championship four times since it was introduced to the PGA Tour in 2003. He won in 2007 and was fourth last year,finishing two shots behind winner Sean OHair.
No visa for shooter Tamang
Commonwealth Games gold medallist shooter Pemba Tamang,who was stopped from boarding a flight to China for the World Cup as his passport had an invalid stapled visa,will have to skip the event after he failed to get a fresh visa. Tamang was stopped by immigration officials in Mumbai from boarding a flight to Beijing for the April 17 to 24 event as his passport had the invalid visa,which China issues to Indians from Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh.
Indians win quota place
India has received a quota place in womens weightlifting competition for the Youth Olympic Games in August in Singapore by virtue of winning the team trophy in the just-concluded Asian Youth Championships in Tashkent. The Indian girls finished team champions in the April 7-11 Asian Youth Championships.
Dipika in final,Ghosal loses
Saurav Ghosal failed to build on a bright start and went down against third seed Mohamed El Shorbagy of Egypt in the semi-finals of the five-star PSA Indian Challenger at the Calcutta Racket Club courts,but Dipika Pallikal kept Indian hopes alive in the WISPA event after beating top seeded Sharon Wee of Malaysia. Dipika will face Emma Beddoes of England in the final on Saturday.
Dempo go four clear at top
Hosts Dempo beat Chirag United 3-1 in Margao to to maintain pole position in the I-League. The visitors surged ahead in the 17th minute through Josimar Da Silva Martins,but Dempo scored through Roberto Silva (42nd),Ranty Martins (52nd) and Joaquim Abranches(84th). Dempo head the table with 41 points,four clear of Mahindra United.
Randhawa makes cut
Jyoti Randhawa raised his game in the nick of time to make the cut but none of his compatriots made it to the weekend at the Volvo China Open. Randhawa,who shot an opening round of two-over,brought home a two-under 70 on Friday. SSP Chowrasia (146),Shiv Kapur (146) and Gaganjeet Bhullar (147),however,made early exits.
Tiwana takes 10-shot lead
Arshdeep Tiwana shot an eight-under 62 to establish a 10-stroke lead on day two of the PGTI Feeder Tour event in Jaipur. The Hyderabad player,who had shot a four-under 66 in Round 1,has a total of 12-under 128. Kuldeep Singh,Pradeep Kumar and Anirudh Goyal are in tied second place.
