India added two silver and as many bronze to take their medal count to seven on the second day of the Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent. Seera Chandrakala clinched two silver in womens 63kg in clean and jerk (101kg) and total lift (183kg) while her compatriot Gara Aruna Rani won a bronze in snatch (81kg) in the same weight category. In mens 62kg,Yukar Sibi won a bronze in clean and jerk (140kg). On the first day of the championships,Matsa Santoshi had won three bronze in womens 48kg.

Trezeguet ruled out

Juventus injury woes continue with forward David Trezeguet ruled out of Fridays Serie A game with Inter Milan due to a muscle problem. The struggling Turin squad has been bothered by injuries all season,with the likes of Gianluigi Buffon,Alessandro Del Piero and Vincenzo Iaquinta each missing big chunks of games. Details on Trezeguets left leg injury emerged on Wednesday,and he is expected to miss about a week of training. Zdenek Grygera has a similar injury and will be out for 20 days. On Tuesday,midfielder Sebastian Giovinco was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Negi loses in final round

Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi succumbed to his second defeat in as many days going down to Spanish Grandmaster Lopez Martinez Josep Manuel in the ninth and final round of the 12th Dubai Open International chess tournament which concluded here on Wednesday. GM Eduardo Itturizaga of Venezuela played out a quick draw with Viorel Iordachescu of Venezuela to win the title on his best tiebreak score based on the average ratings of his opponents.

Advani,Gilchrist in summit clash

Defending champion Pankaj Advani came one step closer towards registering a hat-trick of titles,beating Myanmar’s Kyaw Oo 5-3 in the semi-finals of the Asian Billiards championship.

Pankaj will face Singapore’s Peter Gilchrist,whom he had defeated in the summit clash in Pune last year,in the best-of-11-frames final. Gilchrist had to go through a tough time to prevail over Praput Chaithanasakun of Thailand 5-4 in the other semi-final.

Egypt faces censure

Egypt will go before a disciplinary hearing in Zurich after an attack on the Algerian team bus before a World Cup qualifier last November.

FIFA said on Wednesday the Egypt Football Association will face charges over incidents which marred their 2-0 home win over Algeria. Algeria team bus was stoned and several players had to be treated for cuts.
