Pankaj Advani kept Indias hopes alive in the third Indoor Asian Games in Hanoi after advancing to the quarter-finals of the 15-Red Snooker discipline . He defeated Hong Kongs Au Chi Wai and then Bruneis Husain Mahmood Ali Mahmood. Manan Chandra beat Bruneis Ahmed Ghulam Hasan Muanedi 4-0.

Pratiksha wins gold

Pratiksha Santosh Shinde of Maharahstra clinched four medals including a gold as the Indian vovinam squad won seven medals in the Asian Indoor Games. Shinde joined Rahul Kumar,Shashank B Kathade and Devrao S Kapse to fetch silver in the multiple attack technique,then paired up with Akanksha Sahai to fetch another silver in the dual sword,before earning her third silver medal in the fights category.

Anand clinches series

World champion Viswanathan Anand tamed former World Champion Anatoly Karpov of Russia in successive two encounters to win the rapid four-game chess series 3.5-0.5 in Ajaccio,France. The Indian,who was leading the series 1.5-0.5 after winning the first game and drawing the second with the Russian at Bastia,beat Karpov in both the remaining games to ensure a spectacular victory.

New European,Asian tour events

India will stage a new European and Asian Tour golf event next February,said a Professional Golf Tour of India PGTI official. In the next 10 days,we will announce a very big tri-sanctioned event Europe,Asia and India for February 2010, said PGTI director Padamjit Sandhu. Sandhu expected India to stage two European Tour and upto four Asian Tour events in 2011.

Prakash stuns fifth seed

Prakash Amritraj stunned fifth seed and local favourite Kyu Tae IM to advance to the singles second round of the ATP Challenger event in Chuncheon,Korea but his campaign in the doubles was cut short in the opening round. Unseeded in singles,Prakash shocked his opponent 7-6 2 6-2 in the opening round of the 1,00,000 hard court event. He will next play Latvian Andis Juska.

Ghosal crashes out

Indias top ranked player Saurav Ghosal crashed out of the 277,500 World Squash Open after being humbled by Egyptian Karim Darwish in Kuwait City. World number 34 Ghosal,who for the first time in his career has made it to the second round of the premier event,lost 4-11 5-11 9-11 1-11 to top seed Darwish in 40 minutes at the all-glass court in Green Island last night.

Sanam in main draw

Sanam Singh returned to the professional circuit in syle,toppling eight seed Kaden Hensel in a tough three setter to qualify for the main draw of the ATP Challenger event in Charlottesville,US. Sanam got the better of his Australian opponent 6-2 1-6 7-5 in the third and final qualifying round of the 50,000 event. Before beating Kaden,the Indian had shocked third seed Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania in the first round.
