Sehwag,Venu will share batting responsibility for DD: Finch

Delhi Daredevils will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata in their campiagn opener on April 5.

Skipper Virender Sehwag and Venugopal Rao will share the burden of batting for Delhi Daredevils in absense of their key players in the fifth Indian Premier League,said Australian batsman Aaron Finch.

Former skippers Mahela Jayawardena,Kevin Pietersen and Ross Taylor,who broke his wrist today during a Test against South Africa in Wellington,won8217;t be available atleast for the first few games of IPL 5 and Finch said the onus will be on Sehwag,Venugopal and himself to strengthen their batting.

8220;You definitely need to get off to a good start in the tournament,that8217;s take a lot of pressure off from the franchise. It8217;s really important to get the team really confident going into the middle part of the tournament where you can really shape for the finals,8221; Finch said after Delhi Daredevils8217; second practice session here.

8220;Obviously,three huge players are missing out of the side and the onus will be on myself,Sehwag,Venu Rao to step up and make our batting strong as much we possibly can without these guys,8221; he added.

Daredevils players practiced some orthodox shots during the training session today and Finch said it would make the task easy for them to adapt to the T20 format.

8220;Nothing is learnt just like that we do practice different kinds of shots. T20 is all about lots of switch hitting,reverse sweep,pedal sweep and hitting over the keeper8217;s head. Improvisation and adaptation is what T20 all about,8221; he said.

On lack of spinners in the squad,Finch said,8221;We might not have big name to tell you but we do have talented and consistent performers. The spinners we do have are well drilled and always work according to the game plan.8221; In his second season with Daredevils,Finch is looking forward to a fruitful IPL-5 season and said it is a great chance to play against world8217;s best players in the game.

8220;It8217;s great that you get the opportunity to play against the best players in the world. You play against Sachin Tendulkar,Gautam Gambhir 8211; 8211; the atmosphere and excitement around the game when Virender Sehwag and Sachin would toss the coin 8230; it8217;s phenomenal,8221; said Finch.

Young Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell,who has joined the Delhi team as a replacement for South Africa8217;s Colin Ingram,said: 8220;Playing at different positions makes it easier for me to adapt to the requirement of the game. The team might need me to play as a hard hitting opener or just as a number 7 batting all-rounder.8221;

Asked if he feels pressurised on being compared to Australian opener David Warner,Maxwell said it doesn8217;t affect him and rather inspires him to improve his game.

8220;No there is no pressure at all as for me he is like a role model. And it also inspires me to improve and may be reach the level that Warner has achieved,8221; said Maxwell,who struck the fastest 50 ever in Australian one day cricket history 8212; striking 61 from 27 balls.
