Showing serious intentions of translating words into action,DDCA president Arun Jaitley met a group of former international players at his residence to deliberate over the formation of the Cricket Improvement Committee CIC.
The two-hour discussion on Saturday was said to be fruitful with Bishan Singh Bedi,Kirti Azad,Madan Lal,Surinder Khanna and Venkat Sundaram presenting a blueprint of the CIC,along with papers of other cricket associations as reference material.
Among other suggestions, the cricketers wanted to be a hands-on agency, not merely a body making recommendations, working in collaboration with the DDCA executive members with all powers vested with it.
Awaiting ratification
Though the idea of CIC has been approved in principle, the exact modalities-powers and functions- have to be finalised and ratified by the DDCA executive before a formal announcement is made. Despite an open-ended timeframe, the proposed CIC is expected to take charge from the next season.
It was a detailed meeting during which there were some important and positive suggestions. They have proposed a Cricket Improvement Committee for DDCA involving former cricketers. We have welcomed the idea. We are hoping to induct more cricketers into the fold and hope that a renewed effort from the people who are working with us already, Jaitley said. Bedi also expressed his optimism towards a better mechanism being in place. We came to discuss about improvement of Delhi cricket. I am satisfied with the response. DDCA has promised to do its best to imbibe a CIC in its set up, he said.
The meeting, among others, was attended by DDCA vice-presidents Suresh Chopra,CK Khanna, secretary SP Bansal, government nominee Vibhakar Shastri.
