Twenty-six year old Nazira Rafei was cleared of a charge that she had sex with a 15-year-old student. She was also cleared of a second charge of an indecent act with a child under 16,the Australian reported.

During hearing, the County Court was told that the city-based married science teacher developed friendship with the boy outside school after which they began a relationship.

Judge Liz Gaynor then sentenced Rafei to about 150 hours of community work. Besides, the accused was also placed on the sex offenders register.

The judge said Rafei had behaved inappropriately and breached the teacher-student relationship “in the most serious way”. However,Gaynor accepted that Rafei’s behaviour was not predatory.

“You leave this court with a conviction against your name and a life of the most extraordinary difficulty,” Gaynor was quoted as saying by the paper.

The court was also told that the accused had led a sheltered life and was forbidden from mixing up with boys at her school and university.
