US President Barack Obama Tuesday night told Israel and Palestinian leaders that the final status talks on the creation of a Palestinian state must begin soon.
8220;Simply put,it is past time to talk about starting negotiations. It is time to move forward,8221; Obama told reporters here before a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
8220;It is time to show the flexibility and common sense and sense of compromise that is necessary to achieve our goals,8221; Obama said.
Earlier,Obama met separately with Netanyahu and Abbas on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly and termed as 8220;frank and productive8221; talks.
8220;Permanent status negotiations must begin and begin soon,8221; the President said.
Obama also asked both sides to send their negotiators to Washington next week for more discussions on relaunching the dialogue process.
8220;My message to these two leaders is clear. Despite all the obstacles,despite all the history,despite all the mistrust,we have to find a way forward,8221; he said.
