Fawad Mohammadi,14,made a living on the streets of downtown Kabul selling maps to help support his family. But he never imagined this would lead him to film maker Sam French,who would turn him into a movie star. Mohammadis face has now peered out from cinema screens from Los Angeles to London,starring in a short film,Buzkashi Boys.The movie is about two children growing up in Kabul who dream of becoming Buzkashi riders,horsemen who compete in the Afghan national sport similar to polo.

Tom Hanks will make his Broadway debut playing a tabloid journalist in Lucky Guy,a new drama by the late Nora Ephron. Hanks will continue his long collaboration with Ephron that has included Sleepless in Seattle and Youve Got Mail. Based on a true story,Lucky Guy dramatises the rise and fall of former tabloid columnist Mike McAlary as he covers the police scandals of a polarised,crime-ridden 1980s New York. Lucky Guy is billed as a drama with touches of Ephrons famed acerbic tone.

Sarah Palin,former Alaska Governor,who has recently been photographed looking slimmer,is working on a book about personal fitness,she told a celebrity magazine. Palin resigned as governor of Alaska in 2009 and went on to publish two books,the memoir Going Rogue: An American Life and America by Heart: Reflections on Family,Faith and Flag. In the past,Palin has criticised first lady Michelle Obamas anti-obesity campaign,on a talk radio show in 2010.
