IPL semi-finals to be held as scheduled: KPCA

The IPL semi-final matches will go on as scheduled here,Karnataka’s apex cricket body said after police maintained that the fixtures will be held only after resolving security issues following the twin blasts and seizure of crude bombs near the stadium.

Honorary secretary of Karnataka State Cricket Association Brijesh Patel said Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari had assured him that adequate security would be provided for all the IPL matches.

“…They have assured (us) all security measures will be taken and matches will go on,” he told reporters when asked whether the semi-final matches will be held as scheduled on April 21 and April 22.

Earlier,the police commissioner had said that they would give the go ahead to hold other IPL matches in the city only after resolving various security issues.

“Permission to hold the rest of the matches will be given after carrying out thorough searches and making necessary arrangements,” Bidari told reporters.

Two crude bombs exploded in quick succession outside the M A Chinnaswamy cricket stadium here yesterday,minutes before an IPL match was to begin,leaving 15 persons injured.

A third crude bomb was found near Gate number 8 of the stadium.

Bidari said search operations this morning had led to recovery of some explosive material stuffed in a flex column and an unexploded bomb about 150 metres away from the stadium.

Meanwhile,some cricket fans went to the stadium and demanded refund of tickets for other matches.
