India,Iran express concern over the Syrian situation

The Syrian unrest figured in the talks External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid had with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi.

India and Iran today jointly voiced deep concern over unabated violence in Syria and called upon all sides to resolve issues peacefully by taking into account the aspirations of the people of the country.

In a joint statement issued after the talks,Khurshid and Salehi 8220;strongly expressed deep concern on the continuing and unabated violence8221; in Syria.

The two leaders called upon all sides in Syria to abjure violence and resolve all issues peacefully through discussions taking in to account the aspirations of people of that country.

In this regard,India and Iran supported the Geneva Communique which includes the six-Point Plan of Kofi Annan and welcomed the efforts of Joint Special Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi.
