Piyush Chawla was the talking point just before the start and during the World Cup after his inclusion raised a few eyebrows. In a chat to The Indian Express,Chawla talks about his World Cup outing.
How do you look back at the last two weeks?
I gave my best in the three league matches I played in the World Cup. It doesnt matter that I didnt get a chance in the knockout stages. Just to be part of a team that created history is incredible. It was like Diwali.
What does the win mean in cricketing terms?
When you beat good teams in a big tournament, there is a boost in confidence. Being world champions gives the team an aura.
Dhoni showed a lot of faith in you and played you ahead of R Ashwin in the early stages. Did this put more pressure on you to perform?
Dhoni is a great motivator. It is wonderful when the captain backs you. When such a big tournament like the World Cup is on,criticism will happen. The key is not to allow it to get to you.
You have been with the KXIP side all through. How do you see your role as a senior player in the side?
My role is to attack the batsmen and provide regular breakthroughs.
Adam Gilchrist brings his brand of cricket to the team which is encouraging. The atmosphere in the team is positive. The team is gelling well too,I am sure we will have lots of wins under our belt as the tournament progresses.
