Delhi’s Vidya Jain Public School claimed the Poly Umrigar Trophy,symbol of supremacy in school crikcet,defeating Presidency School,Bangalore by 54 runs in the final of the BCCI sponsored U-16 All India Schools cricket tournament here today.
Opting to bat first,Vidya Jain players could muster only 123 all out in 37.2 overs but spinners Nitish Rana,Abhishek Shokeen and Akashdeep Pandey played steller roles in bundling out the Bangalore team for a meagre 69 in 42.3 overs.
For Delhi,Narayan Bisht (34) and Sakib Alam (33) remained the significant contributors with the bat,while for Bangalore,medium pacer Rahul Shoekand (4/16) and left arm spinner Prithviraj Singh (2/31) were the most successful bowlers.
In reply,Presidency School batsmen wilted under pressure mostly falling to the guiles of the spinners. Only C A Karthik (18) showed some semblance of resistence as off-spinner Rana 4/8),Abhishek Shokeen (2/4) and Akashdeep Pandey (2/12) came up with some devastating spells.
