England batsman Ian Bell has said that he is on the top of his game and has overcome his mental weaknesses ahead of the first test against India at Lords on Thursday.
I always felt I could get through on ability and technique alone. But where I was lacking was mentally. I know that now, Bell was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.
I want to get better. I reckon I have got another five years to become the best I can possibly be. I have had my highs and lows but I want to contribute to us winning and saving as many Tests as possible. The more I do,the happier I will be, he added.
Bell admitted that winning against India will be a tough task just like the Ashes, but said England is ready for the challenge.
This is what we have been looking forward to all summer. This is the big one. It is Andy Flower against Duncan Fletcher. Its our bowlers against their world-class batsmen, Bell said.
It is playing against Sachin Tendulkar again and all their other greats. We did what we had to do against Sri Lanka and it was particularly good to beat them in one-day cricket but this is a series you want to be involved in,just like the Ashes, he added.
Bell, who is riding high on confidence after having a superb run against Sri Lanka, averaging an astonishing 331in the series, said that he is eagerly awaiting the series against India.
The last 18 months have been fantastic. I didnt have the mental strength to take on people like Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath when I first faced them. But now I think I can score runs in any situation, Bell said.
