Set to undergo an eye operation in a private hospital at Alabama on Tuesday,injured hockey goalkeeper Baljit Singh is confident of getting his full vision back and returning to the field.

After doctors at the Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore said they could not guarantee full vision,Baljit left for Alabama to consult renowned ophthalmologist Robert Morris. Dr Morris studied reports from both All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Johns Hopkins and decided to do the operation on Tuesday,Baljit said. Dr Morris told me that he has handled similar cases where patients have regained their full vision. That gives me confidence, he said.

India thrashed by Spain

Terrassa: The Indian hockey team received an 8-2 plastering at the hands of Spain in the first test against their world No 3 rivals. The scorers for the hosts were Santi Freixa (3rd and 15th min),Xavi Ribas (14th),Albert Sala (26th),David Alegre (30th),Xavi Llenart (36th and 49th) and Victor Sojo (67th). Indias consolation goals were scored by Hari Prasad (51st) and Rajpal Singh (60th min).

Women lose to England

Boston: India let in an early goal and then failed to convert scoring chances as they lost to England 1-0 in their first medal round Group E match of the Womens Junior World Cup. India now need to win both their matches against Chile and Korea for a chance to make it to the last four.
